Automated inspection of car parts

This project is a collaborative project with Polycon (Magna Exterior division) which is a major automotive plant In Guelph that specializes in manufacturing polymer based body parts like fascia. All produced parts are inspected for defects. There are many different defects including physical defects like small dents to paint process defects like orange peel. Currently, polycon trained inspectors perform a complete inspection of all parts before shipping. This is an expensive process particularly with the rising cost of manual labor. The objective of this proposal is to develop a real-time automated inspection system for full inspection of Polycon parts production.
